How to Support Your Child's Learning
For parents
Don't test your child — give them an opportunity to show what they have learned.
The “2 Minutes Together” feature
A short idea for a friendly conversation with your child after completing a lesson.
Don't test your child — give them an opportunity to show what they have learned
Parents often want to know what their child remembers after a lesson. But it is not always clear how to ask without turning the conversation into an exam.
That is why LINGO has the “2 Minutes Together” feature.
After some completed lessons, a short conversation idea may appear in the parent dashboard. It suggests which words your child has recently learned, what you can ask them, and how to turn revision into a small family game.
This is not compulsory homework
The “2 Minutes Together” cards are recommendations only.
Parents decide for themselves:
- whether to use the card;
- when to talk with their child;
- which game option to choose;
- how much time to spend on the conversation.
💛 Skipping a card does not affect anything
It does not change your child's progress, rewards, access to lessons, or learning results.
Your child is not being tested
The main purpose of this feature is not to assess your child, but to give them an opportunity to experience success.
❌ Not like an exam
“What did you learn today?”
✅ It's better to suggest a game
“Can you teach me two new words?”
Parents can also deliberately make a mistake so that their child has an opportunity to correct the adult.
This way, the child is no longer a student being tested, but a little teacher who already knows something and can share it.
What is included in a card
A card may contain:
- a few words from the completed lesson;
- simple questions;
- a short game;
- a hint in case your child has difficulty;
- an example of encouraging praise.
Such a conversation usually takes no more than two minutes.
What this might look like
1. Start with a game
Invite your child to teach you two new words or show you a familiar object.
2. Give them time to think
Don't give hints immediately. A few calm seconds help your child remember the word independently.
3. Finish with praise
Praise your child's effort and courage, not just the correct answer.
If your child cannot remember the answer
There is no need to rush your child or remind them that they have already studied this topic.
It is better to:
- give them a few seconds to think;
- show them a picture or an object;
- say the first sound;
- repeat the word together;
- move on to another question.
🌱 Mistakes are a natural part of learning
It is more important for your child to feel supported and safe than to always give the correct answer.
Why this is useful
When children explain material to another person, correct an adult, or independently name familiar words, they recall what they have learned once again and begin to use English more confidently.
At the same time, parents gain a clear way to support learning without preparation, textbooks, or additional homework.
Parents always remain in control
LINGO only suggests an idea.
The decision whether to use it always belongs to the parent. The platform does not ask children to carry out activities independently outside the lesson, does not monitor family communication, and does not require confirmation that the cards have been completed.
